It’s been a long time since I have gotten this excited over a new CD. I can’t believe my good fortune to have stumbled into this artist while exploring some jazz albums on some local music store at mall last Sunday. Carol Welsman is a Canadian jazz singer and pianist. She graduated in the 1980s from the Berklee College of Music where she majored in piano performance. She is also an internationally acclaimed singer and pianist whose expressive vocal styling and dynamic stage presence have captivated audiences around the world. She has sold over 60,000 CDs in Canada alone, something few jazz artists in Canada have experienced. Award Winner for “Album of the Year” at the 2008 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, and nominee for “Best Female Vocalist”, Carol’s musical career is soaring to new heights. She has released seven CDs to date, and four have received Juno Award nominations, the Canadian equivalent to the Grammy Award.
The second reason why this album got my attention so much, somehow I feel her sound is similar to my all time favorite smooth jazz vocalist Diana Krall. The musical influences by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Keith Jarrett. This album is a joy from start to finish. Wonderful vocalist & pianist … the product description above is excellent, so I cannot mention specific songs but I simply adore the way she sings Hold Me, her voice is class. However, the entire CD is melodic & warm (acoustic) with both romantic ballads & energizing upbeat tracks. Great artist, great music !
