Just upgrading my x10 to eclair using update service runs on winblows machine 🙂 There are no update service available on linux platform so I have to ask some favor to my friend rather than installing winblows on my vm just for doing an upgrade. Thanks goes to Yohan 🙂 The upgrade process I see was pretty easy and straight, just launch the update service program, connect the device, they will detect it automatically and offer an update for the particular model, then downloading the update software (the eclair 2.1 image) and install them on my device. Only takes 15 minutes or so since he also had an x10 and already doing an upgrade and save the eclair image on his puter. Reboot the phone and … I lost all my contacts on my phone 🙂 I wish I remember to use Titanium backup Pro before upgrading 🙂
Besides the new user interface, somehow I feel this eclair was snapier and much responsive than previous donuts, especially if using a home replacement such as Home++ or Launcher Plus Pro, but I think sony ericsson also made a good home ui pretty fast and intuitive too. I switch my home ui to Launcher Plus Pro because Home++ cannot handle the live wallpaper though. The other advantage after this upgrade also fix my problem when switching between wifi and 3G network which always force me to reset the connection each time want to make a switch after screen mute. I dunno if that cause by my ignorance or not but now it works seamlessly.
Another note worthy by this 2.1 upgrade is the addition of live wallpaper feature which can make the phone ui more prettier or just unnecessary crap and only drained the battery consumption, it depends on your point of view. For me this is a nice enhancement and spend the evening finding a nice live wallpaper and Nexus one revamped lwp suits me best. Then I want to share this looks with one of my friend, run the drocap2 screen capture apps, set it to notification trigger and … grab the screen … but … oh noooo … the results image is damage. This is total regression !!! Looks like the screen resolution is not match or sumptin. Trying with another screen capture program such as shootme and picme also give the same results. I emailed the drocap2 dev guys and send the damage image result.
Last but not least is about the battery consumptions, I have to bring my charger out to office using donuts but not with this eclair, looks like this eclair is more eficient for me.
EDIT : The drocap2 apps guy has a quick response to this problem and updating the drocap2 on market with 2.09 version, and now I can grab the screen with a nice results … woo hooo. Thanks!!!
