I found some very useful program name as namebench to track down the fastest DNS available for your computer to use. This program created in python and hosted on this site. Namebench runs a fair and thorough benchmark using your web browser history, tcpdump output, or standardized datasets in order to provide an individualized recommendation. Namebench does not modify your system in any way and also available with a graphical user interface as well as a command-line interface. The project site also provide the namebench in mac, winblows and linux platform, very flexible. Grab the source, compiled with python setuptools, checkinstall and namebench is ready to launch.
Here is the screenshot and result for my rig at home using speedy connection :
The benchmarking progress is rather long but it worth a wait, trust me. 🙂
I’m using opendns before and never realize that from that above report it only the 8th best 🙂 Many friends of mine in many countries reported that google DNS 8.8.8.8 was common fastest DNS server on their area after using this namebench.
I like the way this namebench creating graphic report 🙂
Switch the DNS setting to use the recommended configuration, restart the network-up and woooot … my blog page open in no time. Really 🙂 it’s very fast !!!
It’s time to build the spec file and package this useful utility for klixs users.
