I have to flew away to Jakarta yesterday for CMPC Intel Launching at Novotel Hotel and also for my company press release on the same product at Hotel Nikko in the same day. What I didn’t realize is I have to create and remaster a distro under 12 hours. Sigh …, even though I know I am good at packaging and remastering but for hardware driver searhing and diagnosing and some bunch other worse case scenario in 12 hours ??? You must be kidding me.
I arrived at Cengkareng airport around 9:15pm, and on the way from airport I have time to call ‘beautiful’, darn! I miss her voice. Got to Elok apartment around 10:00pm, blah blah blah, and practically I can touch the CMPC laptop at midnight. Booting my KLIXs distro using flash disk without problem and thank God there is no difficult hardware to configure again, it is all work out of the box. The only problem is I have to find a way to install under 2Gb limit because this laptop has only 2Gb harddisk, it is NAND Flash Harddisk actually. There is no way to extract and install KLIXs-2007.1 distro under this thight harddisk space, so then I think how about ‘slimming down’? That sounds great, I grab my notebook and install a fresh KLIXs installation, it only took 5min and then begin slimming it down to the bone. Removing all unnecessary and resource hog program including java & openoffice, but … it stucks on 1.9Gb, OMG, there is no way to slimming it down again because there is no use if only a system without office application. I begin very disapointed and very tired, then I go to sleep around 3am in the morning.
Didn’t sleep well and too many disrupting affecting me to find a way round the next day. The harddisk installation always resulting the kernel panic during executing the initrd.gz. No more fiddling on harddisk installation, I’ve change the method, I have to use USB installation using my mkliveusb script. That’s the only workaround I can think of, so I have it a go and it succeed install about 3.00pm, the ceremony were at 6.00pm …. doh… I have to remaster to 10 units of this classmatepc as a sample product. Thank God I finished them all just before the ceremony begin.
Maybe next time I have to add my draklive-install script with usb harddisk mode. 🙂
